Nestled in the heart of Pauillac, Chateau Pontet-Canet is one of the few classified growths that is Certified Organic and Biodynamic. In caring for their 81 hectare of vineyards, their ultimate goal is to “respect the vines”. By using organic and biodynamic methods to put this respect into, an incredibly true expression of essence of the terroir is achieved. This extremely gravely terroir is perfectly suited for Cabernet Sauvignon. The combination of gravel soil and chemical-free viticulture forces the vines to struggle and results in naturally low yields with distinctly concentrated fruit.
2010 Pontet-Canet: sun, horses, biodynamic
2010 was a particulary dry and warm year in Pauillac, creating the perfect environment for mature, concentrated Cabernet-Sauvignon.
To avoid compacting the delicate soil, Chateau Pontet-Canet increased their use of horses in working the vineyard and transporting the fruit. According to the Chateaux, in 2010 the horses did more than prevent the soil from being compacted by tractors. “The strong, calm and reassuring step of the gentle horses… has contributed so much to the serene atmosphere of our domaine, as well as enabling greater loving care of the vines.”
2010 was the first doubly certified organic and biodynamic harvest, and although it is still young, Pontet-Canet believes it could potentially be the greatest vintage the estate has ever produced in its 300 year history. It has been described as possessing tightly structured tannins with juicy, even creamy fruits and a nice level of acidity.Discover Pontet-Canet Wines
