Pomerol 2010 – Parker’s Favourites
The 2010 Pomerol vintage was outstanding. Parker particularly impressed by three estates: Chateau Le Gay, Chateau Vieux Chateau Certan and Chateau Gazin—giving each of them higher scores than he originally awarded in 2011. Chateau Le Gay 2010 . A blend of 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6%, 2010 Vieux Chateau Certan is marked by a distinct freshness, powerful tannins and an impressive black cherry nose. Chateau Gazin 2010 is impressive and marked by layers of black fruits.
2010 Vieux Château Certan – 99
Vieux Chateau Certan 2010 is a blend of 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Hailed by owner Alexandre Thienpoint as one of the “best” Vieux Chateau Certain ever, Parker calls the 2010 vintage “crisp and refined” and praises its “voluptuous texture and tremendous purity.” 2010 Vieux Chateau Certain is best enjoyed now and until 2051.
2010 Chateau Gazin – 96
Parker begins his review of the 2010 Chateau Gazin vintage with just one word – “Wow!” Already rated impressively with a 93-95 in 2011, Parker was so enthralled with the wine at its re-tasting that he increased the score to a 96 and showered praises on the vintage. He found “notes of caramelized black cherry and black currant fruit interwoven with mocha, white chocolate, subtle toast and hints of coffee beans and tobacco leaf” on the nose. Parker recommends forgetting the wine for 6-10 years and then drinking it “over the following 30 to 40.”
