The vineyards found in south-western facing plots are among the vineyards with the highest elevation in Sancerre. The celebrated Cuvée La Moussiere, considered “without competition” thanks to its exceptional finesse,is grown in these vineyardsWonderfully pure and fresh this wine delights with a bouquet of floral and fruity scents.

The best of the Alphonse Mellot wines are produced from vines grown on chalky soil with marl influences. Hints of clay and flint assist in the formation of fine fruit flavors and give Sancerre the typical mineral notes. According to the winemaker it is this terroir that defines the wines: “It is nature that holds up a mirror in front of us, and gives to us what we give to her. Thanks to her generosity, it is often more than we deserve.”

Génération XIX 2011

The Cuvee XIX is the expression of the new generation of Mellot and is produced from 87 year-old vines grown on the “La Moussiere” plots. Honey, lemon and soft floral aromas, such as acacia, are the predominant influences in the bouquet and are complimented by notes of mineral iodine. This Cuvee wets the palate with a perfect balance of acidity and rich flavors, such as toasted hazelnuts, minerals, nutmeg and boxwood.
