Cloudy Bay was one of the first vineyards to be established in the region of Marlborough in New Zealand.
Founded 30 years ago by David Hohnen, who is also the founder of the domain Cape Mentelle in Australia- Cloudy Bay is today spread across nearly 310 hectares. In 2014 was also celebrated 30th vintage of the winery. The property holds its name from its ideal geographical situation – between the Pacific ocean and the hilly chain of Richmond Range – which brings to the creation of many clouds.
The vineyard benefits from a sunny and dry climate, calmed by a cover of clouds providing ideal conditions to grow Sauvignon Blanc. It is the wine on which Cloudy Bay has built its reputation across the whole world, thanks to its freshness, delicacy, refinement and to its highly fruity character. Chardonnays, Pinot Noir as well as a slightly sparkling wine (called «Pelorus») are also produced, thanks to the great diversity of soils.
The flagship of this New Zealand winery, the Sauvignon Blanc, is produced thanks to grapes coming from 9 different plots. To get a wine of flawless quality, fresh and extremely fruity, grapes are harvested by hand, in the coolness of the evening. The result is a wine that is as much appreciated by the experts as well as the amateurs for its great aromas and its fineness.
