Clarendon Hills, A lightning rise
Roman Bratasiuk, a passionate winegrower, definitively changed the Australian wine landscape when he founded domain Clarendon Hills in 1990. Self-taught man, he has been learning about winemaking continuously, pushing his wines always further.
Personal investment has paid off since international critics have rapidly considered his wines as exceptional and capable of a level equivalent to the finest growths.
Famous Robert Parker even said that Roman Bratasiuk was one of the greatest winemakers in the world. Today, Alex and Adam Bratasiuk have succeeded to their father at the head of the property, managing Clarendon Hills as a family domain. While Adam is entirely dedicated to the winemaking and the cellar under the care of Roman, Alex manages the direction of the property.
Clarendon Hills, Respect for the fruit
The extreme Australian weather conditions are crucial factors when it comes to take the right decisions regarding the vine care.
Constant readjustments are necessary throughout the summer to protect bunches and to get the optimum maturity.
Here, the season, the climate and the levels of humidity of the soils are assessed in order to predict the size and quality of the future harvest.
Grape harvests are carried out according to the specificity of each plot of soils. Tannins and aromatic profiles differ from one vineyard to another and harvesting by hand optimizes this diversity. For every picking, Roman tastes the grape to define the rows that are ready to be harvested. Everything is manually accomplished.
Clarendon Hills wine production
Once harvested, grapes are pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. In the course of tastings, they will choose to extend the maceration, to reduce it or to adjust the temperature to obtain the best quality. There are many approaches to refine the expression of each plot. Once the fermentation stage is done, the wine is matured in oak barrels for 18 months. Wines from this domain are renowned for their body and great purity. Elegant and distinguished, they reflect the potential of a splendid land and the job of a passionate man.
