Futures 2015: Appellation Pauillac

Futures 2015: Appellation Pauillac

The appellation of Pauillac takes its name from the eponymous city in the heart of the Médoc. Its 1,200 hectares of vines thrive in the area’s high-quality gravel and rock soils and temperate climate. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and petit verdot grow on a gentle slope facing the Garonne.

Pauillac’s ageing potential is unrivaled. The wines are aromatic and intense, with strong tannins that soften with age. They are energetic and full-bodied when consumed young. Prolonged ageing gives way to more delicate and subdued flavours.

2015 in Pauillac:

Spotlight on the 2015 vintage: 2015 in Bordeaux started with an unusually mild spring. May, June and July subsequently were warm and dry, allowing the vines to grow rapidly. An even and consistent véraison occurred in early August. Autumn saw cooler, damp weather, helping build aromatic complexity and power in the grapes before harvest. The highly-anticipated vintage promises to be one for the ages.
