The origins of the Trimbach family date back to 1626 when Jean Trimbach came to Riquewihr in Alsace. Since then, the estate has been passed on from father to son for 12 generations. Shortly after the First World War the family Trimbach left Hunawihr and settled down in Ribeauvillé where Frédéric Théodore – director of the estate at that time – was an important member of the union for wine merchants and wine growers from Alsace. Finally, the winery gained a high international reputation in 1898, when it participated at the “Foire Internationale de Bruxelles”. A tradition that continues on to this day.

The vineyards of the property are in Ribeauvillé and near the villages of Hunawihr, Bergheim, Rorschwihr, Riquewihr and Mittelwihr. The soils consist of limestone, which, in conjunction with the old vines, brings minerality into the wines. The region also benefits from the famous Alsatian microclimate that is protected by the Vosges (a mountain chain). The cool wind ensures perfect and slow ripening of the grapes.

Special attention is dedicated to Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer grapes. After the harvest and the vinification, the wine ages in bottles in the cellars of the winery. These dry, straight, dynamique, lively, fruity, elegant and balanced wines have created the image of the quality and authenticity of the Maison Trimbach. The work in this exceptional terroir, which is carried out by experienced men and women, allows the production of complex and expressive wines.

The cuvée Frédéric Emile

The classic of the Maison Trimbach is a blend of the two plots called Geisberg and Osterberg, both of which are planted with old vines. The Riesling vines grow on marl lime sandstone, which gives a particularly fresh minerality to the wine. This cuvée is very dry and accessible, representing the whole philosophy of the estate. It is profound and persistent and has a very good aging potential. It has contributed to the excellent international reputation of the Maison Trimbach among the Alsatian wines and especially among Rieslings.
