Generations of Passion
Located in Ay, in the renowned and celebrated terroirs of the Marne Valley, the history of the House of Deutz is one of inspired and passionate generations of winemakers. The House was born in 1838, the fruit of a meeting between William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, wine merchants originally from Aix-La-Chapelle. They combined their expertise and knowledge of the market to overcome borers and develop the Champagne house abroad. This risk paid off, as it became well-known before the start of the 20th century. As the generations passed, the heirs of Deutz breathed elegance and character into the House. Ever since, it has focused on a core philosophy: a consistent and harmonious blend, which gives a unique and elegant stle. Today, the estate is under the direction of Fabrice Rosset, who shares the same rigorous search for excellence. His passion for terroir and tradition, as well as his viticultural expertise, are precious assets which are reflected in the refined Champagnes they create.
The teams at the Deutz House work with extreme care to respect their soils, and to limit the yields. Each parcel is treated according to its evolution and unique maturity. During the harvest, only the best quality grapes are picked.
The Deutz style is focused on perfectly chosen blends, 80% of which are coming from preimeur and grand cru plots. The individuals vats of the domain hold wines from carefully identified plots.
The cellars lie at a depth of 20 to 60 metres below the roots of the vines. Here, certain prestige cuvees age for over 10 years before being added to the blend. There, one also finds the “Amout de Deutz,” a sanctuary for the mathusalems of the collection. Given the magnificent terroir of Ay, Deutz combined the vinous Pinot Noir with the tension and refreshing quality of Chardonnay.
