A tribute label

Every year since 1945, the label of Château Mouton Rothschild is illustrated by the original work of a contemporary painter such as Cocteau, Braque, Dali, Miro, Chagall, Warhol, Bacon, Niki de Saint Phalle and Jeff Koons. Hence a gigantic collection that unites names of the most famous contemporary artists and which will be enriched by a new work from year to year. For this vintage 2014, the friend and English painter David Hockney of the Baroness Philippine de Rothschild (died in August 2014), decided to render homage to her by illustrating the last vintage signed by the Baroness.

“Surrounded by rays, signs of emotion and wonder, two glasses, an empty and a full one, tell us the febrile waiting and then the miracle birth of a great wine: Chateau Mouton Rothschild, whose Baroness Philippine was so long the good fairy.” Communicated by Château Mouton Rothschild

A master of modern techniques

Artist David Hockney

Artist David Hockney

David Hockney is one of the greatest English painters of our time, recognized early in the history of art. Trained in London, he settled in the United States and met Hopper and Warhol who introduced him to Pop Art. Today, he is recognized as one of the figures of the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. David Hockney always strives to paint his near universe with very nice portraits of friends or landscapes and still lifes. He uses, over the time, modern and diverse techniques: from acrylic to the iPad. He nevertheless follows his figurative tradition and the more particularly art of portrait.

His latest triumphant exhibition at the Royal Academy in London – 82 portraits and a still life – has just ended. A retrospective will take place in 2017 from London to New York via the Center Pompidou in Paris where you can admire “the power of the images, the precision of the line and the modern techniques of a great artist”.

The vintage 2014 of Château Mouton Rothschild

Château Mouton Rothschild 2014 is a blend of  81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. The color of this Pauillac is deep red with a purple hue. The refined and distinguished nose reveals aromas of very ripe fruit, pleasantly mixed with spices and a touch of vanilla. The attack is velvet. The wine carefully fills the mouth, in the beginning of a noble juice that develops a silky sensation – the tannin is a beautiful grain – all in a satiny print, with a mineral accent. The very long finish of this wine displays a harmonious combination of complexity, opulence and freshness. Very serious and great potential!
